6 Questions to cut down the guest list
June 21, 2024
Hope you have fun on your journey!

Hello Beautiful Brides,

Is your guest list out of control? It's amazing how fast a guest list can grow from 50 to 300. Then you start realizing that each guest costs money and you have to stay within budget. So you decide to cut it down. Some are very easy to eliminate but others you just don't know if you should or not.

Here are 6 questions that will help you cut down the guest list:

1. Are they an Ex in either your or your partner's life? Some breakups can be very cordial and the two people remain friends, but your wedding day is not a day for exes.

2. Do you want to talk to them for more than 5 minutes? You know that friend of your family that you really don't care to be around, but you feel obligated to invite, or maybe even a family member, like a cousin that you really don't get along with. Well, if you don't want to talk to them, it's your clue to eliminate them from the list.

3. When was the last time you saw or talked to this person? If you haven't communicated with this person for months, or years even, cross them off.

4. Do you know their last name without having to ask your mother? If you have to ask someone's last name, it is usually a sign that you are not very close to them. A not so close relationship is more than enough reason to draw a line through their name.

5. Does this person cause drama at every event they are invited? A person that causes drama at family events may add a little drama to your day. If you don't want this type of scenario at your wedding, it's best not to let the sharks circle. Oh, and hard feelings before the wedding is much better than a disaster at the wedding that you may not be able to forgive.

6. If you weren't invited to their wedding, would your feelings be hurt? Answering NO to this question should free you up to take them off the list because the feeling is probably mutual.

Now get together with your partner and ask these questions about each person on your list. Without a doubt you'll be able to shorten your list significantly. It may not be as simple as I've made it out, but this should help you put things in perspective. Hope you and your partner find these questions helpful.
